It’s been a quiet couple of weeks (hence no post last week). Not much gaming done, but a bit of development.
This week in development
Don’t you love it when you think you’ve made a breakthrough with an idea, and then you realise you’ve reinvented Carcassonne?
So, after abandoning that, I did some more development on my area control card game and thought I had a decent system. Unfortunately, I prototyped it, played a few turns and it just fell flat. Back to the drawing board with that one.
This week in games
We had a decent turn-out on both Wednesdays. First week, I jumped at the chance to finally play Decrypto properly (with two teams). As there was five of us, I switched teams between games. Unfortunately, my team lost both times! Most annoying was when my team didn’t understand “bunny” as a clue for “energy”, but the opposing team did!
I had better luck with High Society, where I managed to not lose 😀
Then this week, we had four and I broke out Pi Mal Pflaumen. There’s always lots to puzzle out and we all managed to completely miss Flossy silently taking the lead as the rest of us focused on each other.
Last week was also good for receiving games. My Kickstarter copy of Consentacle arrived and it looks awesome, but I’m not sure who I’m going to play it with 😛
I bought A Red & Pleasant Land as I can’t resist anything Alice, even though I likely won’t use it as I’m still reluctant to DM. And I also just picked up Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: Carlton House & Queen’s Park, as it was a decent price in Chaos Cards’ sale.
This week in everything else
Game-related, I’m working on a new dice box. Slightly smaller than my old one. It’s based around a vintage playing card box I got off Etsy, then I’m adding a leather mat inside and some leather straps to hold it closed.
And my new music discovery is Year of the Cobra, who I found while exploring similar artists on Last.fm for Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard. They manage a similar sound to MWWD, but with just a bassist/vocalist and a drummer. Excellent stuff.
